Parents should know the burden teachers shoulder

Dear Editor,

I refer to an article that appeared in your paper yesterday, ‘teacher charged with assaulting student’. I say that it was wrong for the parent to choose to drag a teacher to court without minding about her child’s conduct.

It is difficult to believe that a knowledgeable parent can do such a thing considering how teachers try to model our children into responsible citizens. Many parents have given up on their role of proper upbringing of children to teachers.

The laxity of parents has turned children wild. Some children because of poor upbringing look down upon their teachers.

Drug abuse among children is common, some children carry mobile phones in class; indecent dressing is the order of the day, all these cause headache among teachers but they continue their duties because of their calling.

Why on earth would a student fight a teacher and the parent drag a teacher to court. Such an incident was tragic and unfortunate. It has now caused the rest of the innocent students to miss lessons.

My appeal is that the police should investigate the matter thoroughly by putting in consideration the student record of conduct. The ministry of education that the students have petitioned should also act fast.

And the same ministry should permit teachers to administer punishment in schools to cultivate discipline among pupils, otherwise the academic performance may cripple.
