Editor,This is with reference to Stephen Mugisha’s commentary, "Integrating our cultural heritage in our curriculum” (The New Times, March 26). I agree that our historical cultural practices and activities are on the wane but I do not think that should impact our cultural values. Just as our ancestors, we should find relevant ways of inculcating our rich traditional values to the next generation using modern techniques.The world has changed. We have to adapt-maybe by using modern technology like computer games-to teach respect and other traditional values. Change is difficult but we have to embrace it. It is indeed sad to see how some of us have lost our culture or still think that the western way is the best.When we lose our culture, our language, our values, we lose our identity. Yes, these are modern times but adapting to modern times without our identity is going with the wind.On the other hand, having our identity and knowing our values cannot stop us from adapting.
