Four arrested over theft of credit cards

Police in Kigali have arrested four people, including two Cameroonian nationals, over theft and use of stolen credit cards.

Police in Kigali have arrested four people, including two Cameroonian nationals, over theft and use of stolen credit cards.The suspects are being held at Kicukiro Police Station.According to Ismail Baguma, the director of Interpol in Rwanda National Police, one of the suspects used to keep receipts as clients came to buy in the shop and he collaborated with the co- accused, giving copies of the receipts containing the numbers of the credit cards, which they used to buy through online shopping.The case was discovered when one of the affected clients was informed by his bank that money had been withdrawn from his account and he informed Police.The arrest"He bought the ticket online using the same numbers of the credit card and Police collaborated with airport authority to arrested him. He led us to his accomplices,” said Baguma.So far, 16 credit cards have been recovered from the suspects.Police said they have received e-mails the suspects used to negotiate  how to share credit cards.Police have also reportedly discovered some business companies the suspects have dealt with in online shopping naming, mainly entities in the US.Investigations are ongoing to establish the nature of their operation and if there are more suspects still at large, Police said.
