It was yet again a question of experience as the two most experienced teams Kenya and Algeria qualified for the 16th Women’s African Nations volleyball Championship at Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani, Nairobi-Kenya.

Kenya who are chasing for a fifth CAN title made light work of Egypt when they pulled off a straight sets victory (25-22, 25-9 and 25-21) after spectacular performances from their powerful attackers Catherine Wanjiru, Dorcas Ndasaba and Irene Palanga.

Kenya’s straight sets victory over Egypt took the East Africans straight sets victory to five in a row and kept them on course for a spot at the 2007 world cup in Japan.

Before yesterday’s final, Kenya was fighting for a fifth consecutive African vacancy on the international scene after appearances at the 2002 and 2006 World Championships, 2003 World Cup and 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

In the other semi-final, Algeria went through to their second final in a row after a 3-1 victory over new comers Tunisia.

The 2007 All Africa Games gold medallists lost the first set 21-25 but recovered quickly to see off Tunisia 25-21, 25-21, 25-18.
