Habiyambere gets bye to AJC second round

RWANDA’S JUNIOR tennis player Ernest Habiyambere got a bye into the African Junior Championships AJC second round which started on Monday in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.Habiyambere, the only Rwandan player to reach the semifinals of the warm-up tournament in the build-up to the main competition, will now face South Africa’s Albertus Kruger today. Kruger downed Lesotho’s Nyathi 6-2, 6-0 in the under-14 category in the first round.All semifinalists from the warm-up tournament got byes to second round of the main tournament.Habiyambere is also in contention for the doubles category title as he paired up with Jason Ah Chuen of Mauritius to beat Yabsira Kebede of Ethiopia and Lefteris Ngugi of Kenya 6-0, 6-0 in round one.Another Rwandan, Olive Tuyisenge was eliminated in the first round by Kenya’s Stephenie Mbaya 6-1, 6-1 in the girls’ Under 16 category.David Uwimana was the second Rwandan victim to exit from the competition after he lost 2-6, 0-6 to Egyptian Nabil Fouad.
