Nyamagabe commended for good governance

Rwanda Governance Board Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Fatuma Ndangiza, has commended Nyamagabe district for its outstanding efforts to reach out to the population, serve them and improve their participation in leadership as well as other developmental programmes.

Rwanda Governance Board Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Fatuma Ndangiza, has commended Nyamagabe district for its outstanding efforts to reach out to the population, serve them and improve their participation in leadership as well as other developmental programmes.Ndangiza, who was speaking on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of a three-day services and trade mini-expo held as part of activities to mark the Governance Month, praised the district for dedicating every week of the month to a special programme.She said good governance is a driver of development and cited Nyamagabe as an example. "This is something we should borrow from you next time. Nyamagabe is a testimony of how good governance improves social welfare,” she said.The exercise attracted local and international non-governmental organisations, public institutions, cooperatives and associations, financial institutions, telecommunication companies as well as faith-based organisations, among others.Launched late last month, the Governance Month seeks to reinforce citizen participation in governance with a focus on deepening good governance practices and sustainable development.Formerly plagued by famine and hunger, Nyamagabe district in the Southern Province has steadily improved and is today credited with  improving the welfare of its population, mainly through the increase of agricultural production.The district mayor, Philbert Mugisha, commended the partnership between the private and public sector for speeding up of development.
