Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, yesterday, launched the agriculture season 2013B, in Rwamagana district with a call for farmers to work harder.Addressing farmers that braved a downpour to attend the function, Habumuremyi said food security is a pillar of development of any country. The PM thanked the farmers for their hard work.He urged them to use fertilisers even if the soils in the province remain fertile all season.The Premier, who had earlier participated in soya bean planting in Kabare sector, urged farmers to grow more soya, adding that a factory was ready to buy all their produce at a good price.

Land set aside"A factory in Kayonza [SOYCOM] will be using soya and sunflower as raw material to produce cooking oil. It has a capacity to use 200 tonnes of soya bean per day, which is a big market at your disposal,” Dr Habumuremyi said.At least 13,000 hectares of land have been set aside for soya growing in Eastern Province. The premier also urged residents not to leave land idle, saying there are many peasants praying for fertile land to cultivate.
