AMAVUBI Stars assistant skipper Haruna Niyonzima helped Yanga open a six-point lead over second-placed Azam at the top of Tanzania’s Vodacom Premier League table. The former Etincelles and APR play-maker, for a second successive game, scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over visitors Kagera Sugar on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The midfielder scored a spectacular second half goal to seal a crucial win that stretched Yanga’s points tally to 42 points in 18 games. He scored in similar fashion when Yanga overcame Azam 1-0 to go three points clear last Saturday. The result means that Yanga established an 11-point gap with defending champions and archrivals Simba, who are placed in third place, with 31 points. The midfielder will be among priority players that Amavubi head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic will rely on for the March 24 World Cup qualifier against Mali.Rwanda lie bottom of Group H with one point following a 4-0 loss to Algeria and a 1-all draw against Benin in Kigali in the two group matches played so far. Benin top the group with four points, while Mali and Algeria have three points each.
