The Rwanda Information and Technology Authority (RITA) and the National Institute of Statistics (NISR) Thursday signed a deal for a hi-tech support system.

The pact, signed at Telecom House, will see both parties join hands in statistical data collection, analysis, dissemination, storage and usage for national interests.

NISR Director General, Dr Louis Munyakazi, noted that application of modern technology systems in data compilation will replace the current manual work operations.

He said that improvement of capacity and public, private partnership, and evidence-based information will ensure a national integrated and sustainable framework.

RITA Executive Director, Nkubito Bakuramutsa, acknowledged the need for reliable and state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure for quick and accurate data compilation.

"As we engage the private sector in ICT development, we need to build a web-based and accurate statistical databank,” said Bakuramutsa.

The deal is expected to help both institutions learn from each other to help better deliver on their respective duties.
