RWANDA’S top professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana has his sight firmly set on this year’s Rwanda Open, scheduled for March 20-22 at Kigali golf club, Nyarutarama.Ruterana, who failed to make the cut at the just-concluded Barclays Kenya Open in Nairobi, is already in intensive preparations waiting to defend his title."We have already started preparations and the experience I gained from Kenya Open will be vital in helping me retain the title,”"I want to win and even improve my game as I target more tournaments in and outside East Africa,” added the former caddie. The 29-year old blamed lack of confidence and poor preparations for his dismal performance at the Barclays Kenya Open. His campaign ended on a bad note on February 17 as he failed to make the cut after two rounds. On the first day, he shot 13 over par 84 and sealed the second round with a 75 shot to amass an overall score of 159 which ruled him out of the 62 players who contested for third and fourth rounds. This was the third time in a row that the Rwandan had failed to go past the second round. In 2009 and 2010, he failed to qualify for the second round. But he has also bounced back from such poor regional performances to dominate every tournament held on Rwandan soil.Last year, Ruterana displayed his class and experience as he brushed aside a late challenge from his rival local Jean Baptist Hakizimana to win the Rwanda Open by three strokes. After a thrilling four-under par 68 in the third round, he leveled the course on the final day to finish with 281, an impressive eight under par, for his second Open victory since the professional category inception back in 2008.
