The national 10000m champions Dieudonne Disi jets out today ahead of the Iaaf Memorial Van Damme Golden league this week in Belgium.

The 27-year old leaves Kigali International Airport this evening aboard Sabena Airways plane and is expected to arrive in Belgium on Thursday morning before embarking on the medal campaign the following day.

Disi landed the invitation to participate in the tournament during the just concluded World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan.

"I must do my best though it is not easy to win the but at least I’ll try and beat the qualifying standards,” he told Times Sport on Saturday.

He noted, "This event will also act as a qualifier for next year’s Olympic Games and because I have not achieved the minimum required time for the Games, I need to do well in this event and see if can qualify."

Currently, Disi’s best time in 10.000m is 27:53.51 yet the minimum required qualification time for next year’s Olympic Games is 27:50:00.

Disi added that he will participate in the 10000m event instead of the 5000m where he was eliminated in the heat stages in Osaka.

Disi has been undergoing a daily double training session at Amahoro stadium ahead of the event due this Friday.
