A team of doctors from England and Germany have offered free hernia operation to 27 people at Remera-Rukoma Hospital in Kamonyi district.

A team of doctors from England and Germany have offered free hernia operation to 27 people at Remera-Rukoma Hospital in Kamonyi district.The medical camp, which started on Monday, was organised in cooperation with a local association called Legacy of Hope.Some people who benefitted from the operation expressed their gratitude towards the team and the association which helped them overcome the sickness. John Rumondo, an elderly man, who underwent the operation testified that his state was dangerous, but for the moment he was feeling well.Pastor Osee Ntavuka, the head of Legacy of Hope, said the cooperation with the Remera-Rukoma Hospital will not end with the operation, saying it will go beyond this to ensure the citizens acess quality healthcare near them."Apart from the surgical treatment, we also offered health insurance to some vulnerable people. As the hospital needed a lot of equipment, we brought some equipment that we used in surgery, and we will leave them here in this hospital,” Ntavuka said.The hospital’s head, Viateur Karinda, thanked the medics for the assistance.He, however, mentioned infrastructure, beds and capacity building among their big challenges. The target was to operate on 100 people within one week.
