Rwanda’s top professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana made a sluggish start to this year’s Barclays Kenya Open after posting a below-par performance on the first day of the opening round at Karen Club in Nairobi on Thursday.Ruterana, who has twice fell short of making the cut, in 2009 and 2010, shot 13 over par 84 to end the day on 150, leaving him two positions from bottom of the standings. He is ahead of Kenya’s Justis Madoya and Uganda’s Herman Mutawe.By press time, Ruterana had recorded 4 over par 75 in the second round. The Rwandan ace must do everything possible to post a good result so as to penetrate the top 60 in bid to avoid cut off at the halfway mark.HP Bacher came racing out of the blocks as a five under par round of 66 handed him the clubhouse lead.Tom Murray of England, Spain’s Adrian Otaegui and Raymond Russell of Scotland were all tied in second place on four under par, while the leading Kenyan was Dismas Indiza in ninth on two under par.Kenya’s Nicholas Rokoine, from whom so much was expected was disqualified, marking the end of his participation in this year’s tournament after he signed for a wrong score.
