Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) is targeting to have more than five thousand new cricket players by the end of 2013, according to the body’s chairman Charles Haba. The long-serving cricket boss made the declaration at the close of a one-week training course for Level 1 coaches held last week. The course was conducted by the newly appointed general manager Joshua Mwanja. "Our aim is the rapid growth of cricket in Rwanda schools, we have set a target to have more than five thousand new cricket players this year,” Haba told the participants, who came from 10 schools. One of the trainees, Immaculate Aberwa, who represented Lycee de Kigali, said, "Learning this game has been a big challenge for most of us, who have just picked interest.”"But after this course, certain things have become much simpler to understand and also to pass on to students. We now know the rules and terminologies used in the game,” she added.  Trainees were taught the basic batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping skills, in addition to the art of coaching, planning, and how to communicate effectively. This course offers slightly more edgy  exposure to  the delivery  of the game and will actively  teach  the coaches drills  to continuously  develop players skills at this level. Currently, RCA has over 3000 cricket players.
