Gorillas, Huye and Intwari crowned NPC champions

This year’s Paralympics season for seat ball and sitting volleyball was concluded over the weekend with the Gorillas, Intwari and Gatagara of Huye crowned champions.

This year’s Paralympics season for seat ball and sitting volleyball was concluded over the weekend with the Gorillas, Intwari and Gatagara of Huye crowned champions.

Gorillas won the women’s seat ball honors while Intwari scooped the men’s title.  Huye won the men’s sitting volleyball trophy.

Despite their 20-30 loss in the final game against Kagoma, the gorillas were still crowned as champions. 

Both teams finished the season on 54 points but the Gorillas were crowned champions courtesy of their better goal difference of 17.

Intwari defeated Huye in their final game 26-17 to lift the men’s seat ball trophy with 72 points and Huye revenged in sitting volleyball by three sets to one to finish the season with 41 points.

The winners in each category took home a trophy on top of Frw0.2 million while the first runners up took Frw70.000 and the second runners up walked away with Frw50.000 respectively.

Kagoma and Gatagara were the first, second and third runners up in the ladies seat ball, Huye and THT were the first and second runners up in men’s seat ball while UNR finished third.

Among the individual prize winners were Gorillas’ Claudine Mbazuwagira  (best player in ladies seat ball), Dominique Bizimana, who is the president of NPC and features for Intwari was also awarded as the best in men’s seat ball men’s while Huye’s Fidel Ntawiha was the best player in sitting volley ball.

VSO(Voluntary Service Overseas) country director Mike Silvey speaking on the awarding event as the guest of honor recommended a well done job in sensitizing the rights for the disabled in Rwanda and urged to make their dreams come true.

NPC president Dominique Bizimana thanked their sponsors, the media and all the players for their participation in the league.

This year’s tournament was organized by the National Paralympics Committee and sponsored by VSO (voluntary service overseas) and HI (handicap international).
