Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente on Wednesday, June 27, received the special envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea, Sung Min Jang, who delivered a special message from President Yoon Suk Yeol to President Paul Kagame.

Their discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between the two countries.

As noted, the special message to President Kagame involved an invitation for the latter to attend the Korea-Africa Summit, scheduled to take place in May 2024 in Korea.

Sung told the media that the discussions also involved how both countries can enhance economic cooperation.

He explained: "Going forward, our president is keen on extending economic cooperation with countries in Africa that strongly believe in valuable peace, prosperity, and liberty. Among these countries, Rwanda holds a place, and we aim to make concerted efforts to deepen and strengthen economic cooperation between our nations.”

Manasseh Nshuti, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized the long-standing bilateral ties between the two countries. He highlighted the significant exchanges in various sectors, including education, ICT, and agriculture.

"The discussion today also addressed how we can enhance cooperation in those sectors, and some of their companies that attended this meeting expressed interest in investing in Rwanda,” he said.

Nshuti emphasized that the Korean companies would engage in partnerships with local businesses to enable the complete production of goods previously exported as raw materials. An example would be the manufacturing of batteries for electric cars.

During the discussion, Nshuti emphasized the cooperation in importing electric cars from South Korea as a means to mitigate emissions caused by fuel-powered vehicles.
