It is said that every success you earn is a success for your overall passion and dream. For this reason, it’s learning how to celebrate your milestones irrespective of how small or big they are.

"Small wins count, ‘’ says Dieudonne Iradukunda, a youth entrepreneur focusing on vegetable production. "When people think of celebrations, they think of big life moments and fail to celebrate the small steps in their career or any other areas of life,” he says.

To him, any achievement at any stage of life is impactful for his overall goal, adding that this means that he is about to achieve his dreams, therefore, any success deserves to be acknowledged.

For instance, he narrates that during the onset of his business, there were challenges that almost saw him give up, but with patience and determination, he finally made it and became stable. This, for him, is worth celebrating.

Counselor and educator Diane Nawatti says as a mentor, she always encourages her students to celebrate every single achievement they make as far as learning is concerned. This doesn’t necessarily mean that one has to be extravagant or buy expensive gifts.

Rather, she points out that there are many ways to practice this habit that are easy to incorporate into your everyday lives.

"This could be as simple as taking a day to do something you love that you don’t always have time to do, this is all about celebration and learning how to go about it as it brings more benefits not only to your career but in your life generally,” she says.

Benefits

Nawattii points out that the moment one learns how to celebrate their achievements, it in a way helps them set their mindset towards certain goals in life.

She explains that it’s normal and common for one to keep in mind what they haven’t done or completed depending on what they do. This, she says, is a bad habit as it can lead to a negative mindset about accomplishing goals.Instead, shifting that energy to celebrating achievements can do you more good than harm.

Nawatti quotes Oprah Winfrey saying "the more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” Therefore, it’s just essential to acknowledge your achievements as this would lead to achieving more in life.

Iradukunda says that another best thing that comes with recognising your efforts is motivation as this can fuel motivation to keep pushing forward always.

"It helps you to become resilient as well as develop a positive attitude that can help focus on your tasks rather than on what you have lost or setbacks,” he says.

Menelas Nkontanyi, a software engineer with Arc grid Consultant company ltd says the more one develops a culture of acknowledging their achievements, the more they learn and adapt to new changes.

He says that when you take your time to reflect on your mistakes or practices that weren’t so successful can be a great learning tool too, and that by doing so, it can assist in effectively accomplishing more and tackling new or other ideas and tasks.

Another important aspect, he says it’s clear that when you learn to celebrate little things in your life, you inspire others to do so.

He says that by promoting this habit, you are inspiring others to celebrate their own accomplishments, which strengthens your network as success in general.

For instance, he mentions that sharing your story can stimulate new ideas and opportunities within your area or people you work with. In addition to this, Nkontanyi says it also boosts your confidence in a way.

"This is so because when you acknowledge what you are good at, you become more confident about yourself. You will more likely continue doing what you are good at,” he adds.
