Tumba College of Technology inaugurated

RULINDO — Dr.Daphrose Gahakwa, the Minister of Education inaugurated Tumba College of Technology located in Tumba Sector of Rulindo district on Wednesday.

The Minister was accompanied by the visiting President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Sadako Ogata, the Minister for State for Primary Education Theoneste Mutsindashyaka, the Rector of Rwanda National University Prof. Silas Rwakabamba, Prof. Chryslogue Karangwa and the Mayor of Rulindo district Justus Kangwaje among other dignitaries.

Gahakwa urged Tumba college of Technology students to work hard in order to accomplish government’s vision of attaining advanced technology.

"Rwanda wants to position herself as a regional technical hub,” said Gahakwa.

The minister also hailed JICA for their tremendous effort in rebuilding and equipping the college to international standards.

Sadako Ogata said Tumba College of Technology has a special meaning to Japan and hailed the Rwanda for revolutionizing the economy through technology innovations.

"Japan is determined to assist Rwanda develop her technical skills,” said Ogata.

According to Eng. Pascal Gatabazi, the principal of Tumba College of Technology the college’s vision is to be a leading technical education centre in the country. He said the College currently offers practical oriented skills, technical advisory services and technical teachers’ training.

"Our College emphasizes on job training technical knowledge and we are in line with international standards”, said Gatabazi.

The visitors were taken around the College and shown various technical departments. The departments include electronic and telecommunications department where students displayed a radio that uses solar energy.

At the ICT department, the visitors were shown a variety of software that enables the dissemination of information which can be used in Gacaca jurisdictions.
