V-Ball youth teams qualify for 2013 CAVB Championship

Rwanda’s national youth volleyball teams have qualified for the 2013 Boys and Girls Youth CAVB Championships.The boys’ championship is slated for January 21-31 in Algeria, while the girls’ competition will be held from March 20-30 in Egypt.This comes after all countries of Zone V withdrew from the CAVB Zone V qualifiers, allowing hosts Rwanda to automatically qualify for the upcoming Youth CAVB Championship.According to the Rwanda Volleyball Federation Executive Secretary, Gertrude Kubwimana, no country declared interest to participate in the qualifiers which were slated for the first week of January in Kigali.Rwanda was pencilled in to host both the men’s and women’s zone championships that would also act as qualifiers for the African Youth championships due in Algeria (men) and Egypt (women) in January and March, respectively.Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia failed to respond to Rwanda’s invitation on time.As such, Rwanda automatically qualified for both events. The boys will travel to Kenya for friendly matches between 15-16 before heading to Algeria.The boys’ team is trained by Jean Marie Nsengiyumva and assisted by Dominic Kayonga Ntawangandi. They started preparations at Amahoro Indoor Stadium early this month with a provisional 19-man squad.Meanwhile, the girls team resumed non-residential training on Boxing Day and will enter camp this week to continue preparations for the upcoming Youth Girls Africa Championship in Egypt. The team is under Kenyan coach Paul Bitok.Boys provisional squad: Guide R.
