In a remarkable collaboration that transcended borders with headliners UK-based Malawian comedian Daliso and Teacher Mpamire, as well as Rwandan comedians Herve, Rufendeke and Muhinde, they delivered an unforgettable performance at the prestigious Seka Live show. The comedians’ unique blend of wit, humor, and cultural perspectives created an evening of laughter and entertainment that left the audience in stitches at the Kigali Cultural Village and Exhibition Center.
Hosted by Arthur Nkusi who is the brains behind ‘Seka Live’, the show kicked off at exactly 7pm giving a warm welcome to a big number of attendees. He started making jokes about his colleague Sandrine Isheja and Malik Shaffy who were seated at the table.
"Whenever I am asked what I do and say that I do creative consultancy people don’t really get it, I guess it is not a thing yet. We could have a five minute conversation trying to make them understand what I do but when they finally read my name they are like, 'ooh Rutura from Kiss FM, why didn’t you tell us before,” he joked.
The show was attended by famous figures like Sandrine Isheja, Alliah Cool, Andy Bumuntu, Nadia Mutoni, Shaffy Malik, Juno Kizigenza, coach Gael and Promesse Kamanda among others.
Coming on stage, Muhinde commonly known as one the Gen z comedians under Fally Merci, Arthur stressed that he is very talented and promising. "This is the other Rusine, I can’t wait to witness his one-man show because I believe he is capable”, said Arthur when inviting Muhinde on stage.
Most of Muhinde’s jokes were about how short he is and all the troubles he had to go to for being short.
"I want to advise my fellow short people that going to night clubs is not our thing. I once went out for dancing with my girlfriend but got really annoyed because I was too short so I decided to stand aside and left her dancing with other men. When the club’s green lights pointed at me, suddenly someone placed his beer on my head.
"I was very angry so I went outside but then the bouncers stopped me saying I came with my mother I should not leave alone,” he joked.
Fred Rufendeke dressed in a black suit had the crowd bursting into laughter from one joke to another. "I asked a guy I met on the road if he is a saint or if he knows any. He talked about Saint Andre, Saint Michel and he then said as well Seburikoko and Senderi,” he joked.
He then joked about his high school friend from a rich family whose dad had a BMW. He asked Fred if he knew what the BMW stands but he didn’t have a clue, so his friend told him that it meant Bernard Mwana Wanjye (Bernard my son).
Herve, one of the best Rwandan comedians also gave the audience an outstanding performance with jokes that had them laughing his entire performance. Talking to one in audience from the United Kingdom who had become the man of the show with each comedian joking about him, of course he had to make jokes about him as well.
"At the end of the show one of these Rwandan girls here is going approach you and say that she is from the UK but she really isn’t, she just goes to the University of Kigali (UoK),” he joked.
Uganda’s comedian Teacher Mpamire came on stage in his well-known attire with his notebooks and white board.
He asked the crowd if they were ready for the class and assigned some people in the crowd as the head boy, head girl and the toilet prefect. As a teacher, Mpamire uses comedy as a medium to educate and inspire, bringing laughter and knowledge to his students and fans alike. "Life is like algebra where you find your x but you wonder why (y)”.
Daliso Chaponda, a seasoned comedian known for his charismatic stage presence and sharp punchlines, captivated audiences worldwide with his remarkable journey on Britain's Got Talent. Among the highly anticipated Seka Live headliners, he was welcomed by the audience and it is a sure thing to say that he delivered.
"We have five boys in our family, the first born became a doctor, second boy is a lawyer, third is a pastor then comes me who became a comedian but that doesn’t make me any less because the fifth born is now in prison,” joked Daliso.
Teacher Mpamire then came back for part 2 of his performance dressed like Uganda’s President Museveni. Now, that was the part of his performance that was eagerly awaited by many who knew about the comedian’s performances.
He did a short performance as Museveni being interviewed by a journalist who was Arthur. Some of the hilarious jokes that made the crowd almost shed tears were how he emitted his speech about retiring. He also joked about Rwanda being like a girlfriend to Uganda.
