Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial early on Wednesday, June 21, to pay tribute to victims and survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

President Hichilema, who was accompanied by a delegation of public and private sector officials, laid a wreath in memory of the over 250,000 bodies interred at the memorial.

"Visited the museum today and was taken through the experiences of the Genocide.”

He added, "This is a serious and traumatic attack not only on the Rwandan people but also the whole of humanity.”

Such should not be allowed to happen again anywhere else in the world, noted President Hichilema, following a guided tour at the memorial in Kigali.

"God help the people of Rwanda to achieve real healing and focus on the developmental agenda.”

In 2018, Zambia said its government was committed to partaking in efforts aimed at bringing to book perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The directive followed an extradition treaty that was previously signed between both countries.
