PAUL Were and Kevin Omondi have been ejected from the Harambee Stars squad that is featuring at the CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup in Kampala, according to Kenyan media. Former Tusker FC and AFC Leopards winger Were and Gor Mahia midfielder Omondi who featured in the team’s 2-0 win over Southern Sudan on Tuesday were sent home by stand in coach James Nandwa after breaking curfew."They will be put on the next flight home. The head coach decided to punish them for indiscipline and the federation supports his stance,” Football Kenya Federation (FKF) relations officer John Kariuki confirmed.According to reports, Were who spurned many scoring chances during the match before being substituted for Clifton Miheso and his colleague allegedly sneaked out from the team’s camp before returning in the wee hours of Wednesday in the company of females.Nandwa and the technical committee decided to send the pair home for gross indiscipline with the decision being sanctioned by Football Kenya Federation boss, Sam Nyamweya, who was in Kampala for the match. It is said Sports Minister, Ababu Namwamba who accompanied the side paid the players their allowances on Tuesday evening. The Leopards winger also landed in trouble when the team featured at the same tournament in Eritrea and only a grovelling apology to his teammates saved him from taking an early flight home.Kenya are preparing to face Ethiopia in their last Group A match on Friday where a draw will see them qualify for the quarterfinals since they boast a better goal difference than their rivals who went down 1-0 to host Uganda in Tuesday’s later game. The Cranes booked their ticket for the quarters and face a Southern Sudanese side who exited the competition following the defeat to Stars.David Ochieng opened the scoring for Stars in the 13th minute before Miheso who came on for the disappointing Were sealed the points with a 68th minute strike.Agencies
