Hospitals should be keen on expired drugs

Dear Editor,

The recent impounding and burning of illegal and expired drugs at Kabaronde sector headquarters in Kayonza is a wake up call for all. Hospitals and clinics upcountry are most likely to be victims of buying and using these toxic drugs ignorantly.

From my personal experience, I evidenced a friend being given expired malaria drugs by an ignorant doctor and I know what it means.

Patients in most cases trust that the doctors are doing their job well and they will desperately swallow any medicine given to them knowing that it will cure them and not kill them.

To avoid occurrences of this kind, extra attention by doctors will greatly help fight deaths as a result of taking expired and toxic medication.
