As members of football governing body (Ferwafa) gear up to elect the new President and the Executive Committee during the much-anticipated extraordinary General Assembly slated for June 24, the candidates approved by the electoral commission started their campaigns on Thursday.

The Electoral Commission on Wednesday, June 14, announced the final list of candidates who are allowed to campaign in the FERWAFA elections where 17 of the 24 aspirants who applied to run for the elections, had their candidatures approved while seven aspirants snubbed.

Former Rayon Sports President Chance Denys Gacinya is among notable figures whose candidatures were rejected.

He was particularly snubbed after the FA's electoral commission questioned his integrity based on the charges that he faced as indicated in the criminal record that he submitted to the commission. He is in a dilemma on how he ended up missing out on a chance to run for the vice-president position despite the fact that the appeal committee blessed his nomination.

Gacinya informed the Electoral Commission that he will take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) and seek justice for his candidature snub.

Meanwhile, campaigns for approved candidates will proceed until June 23, just a day before the elections.

Campaigns shall be conducted through media tours whereby every candidate is entitled to explain his/her manifesto.
