Over 10,000 trees planted in Gasabo

Employees of Kigali Serena Hotel yesterday joined residents of Ndera Sector in the monthly community work and planted 11,000 trees. This was done on Bwize, which covers over 20 hectares.

Employees of Kigali Serena Hotel yesterday joined residents of Ndera Sector in the monthly community work and planted 11,000 trees. This was done on Bwize, which covers over 20 hectares.Charles Muia, the general manager of Serena Hotel, said the exercise was part of the hotel`s contribution to environmental protection, a programme the hotel is currently conducting in the region."This is the first time we are engaged in this, but we have big plans of tree planting. This will see the hotel planting more trees in various areas countrywide,” Muia explained.Muia pointed out that the target is to at least plant tress in four villages annually. This will be done through partnerships and collaboration with local authorities and residents. Nduwayezu called on residents to take personal responsibility to ensure that the trees grow and serve a purpose. Gasabo District Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs, Marie Louise Uwimana, used the event to highlight and encourage the population to actively contribute towards the success of the country`s development programmes. She also called on residents to embrace the Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF).
