Dear editor,

I appreciate the efforts that the ministry of health is putting in to ensure that the public is aware of proper feeding habits.

The number of malnourished children and adults is so contrary to the fact that Rwanda is an agriculturally rich economy. One would think that with all the land and food produced people would not be suffering or dying from malnutrition related diseases.

On the other hand, there are also people who are suffering and dying from diseases related to over consumption of food. Obesity which is becoming rampart in Urban Rwanda is another problem.

Parents think being obese is healthy and they keep over feeding themselves and their kids till they are hospitalized

These problems I believe root from the ignorance of many. As Prophet Joel wrote God’s word, in the Bible saying ‘My people perish due to the lack of knowledge.’ In the same sense, intense awareness needs to start rolling so that our ignorant people will stop dying yet from food related diseases.

Eating a balanced diet is the way forward and knowledge of this is vital to curbing these problems. Thanks go to the Ministry of Health in conjunction with other organizations that are surely on the right direction.
