FORMER Rayon Sport coach Raoul Shungu could be on his way back to the club for a third spell if talks between the two parties go according to plan, Times Sport has learnt.According to sources, Shungu, who still has one year remaining on his current contract with DR Congo side Vita Club is ready to talk to Rayon management if they are willing to buy out the remaining 12 months on his contract. When contacted, yesterday, Rayon Sport General Secretary Olivier Gakwaya confirmed the development, revealing that talks should start within the next 48 hours."Nothing has been agreed, but we are waiting for him to come and we start negotiations,” Gakwaya said.Shungu left Rayon in 2004 to join Seychelles national team where he worked as national technical director between 2004 and 2008. He returned in 2008 and lasted for a season before he left under a dark cloud, accusing the club of failing to pay him US$45,000.He was appointed caretaker coach of the Rwanda national team in April 2008, before was replaced by Croatian Branko Tucak two weeks later. The DR Congo born tactician helped Rayon win the first ever CECAFA club championship for a Rwandan team in 1998 from Zanzibar. He also guided them to the league title in 1997, 1998 and 2002.Why always Shungu? It goes without saying that Rayon Sport management and the fans are so obsessed with Shungu that every time the team is struggling for form, the Congolese is the first man on everyone’s lips to turn things around. When asked why always Shungu even when he left the club under unclear circumstances, Gakwaya said, "because he knows the team very well, even the fans like him so much and they have been demanding that he comes back.”However, on the situation with the two coaches Ali Bizimungu and Abdu Mbarushimana, who are currently handling the team but have lost the first three league matches of the new season, Gakwaya did not give away too much."For now I cannot tell you anything regarding the two coaches and whether they will stay on or not when Shungu comes in, but we have a meeting with the Board after which we will announce their fate,” he explained. No Timbe talksMeanwhile, the club has distanced itself from reports that former Atraco coach Sam Timbe is on their wish list. The Ugandan-born coach, who led the now defunct Atraco to the 2009 Cecafa/Kagame Cup success in Khartoum, has been linked to Rayon for some time now but Gakwaya has denied any knowledge of the club’s interest. He said, "No, we have never talked to him with regard to the coaching role. He is a great coach but we’re looking somewhere else.”Rayon are looking for a permanent coach to replace Jean Marie Ntagwabira, who resigned at the end of last season, citing irreconcilable differences with his bosses and a section of fans.
