"Our mission is to promote mental wellbeing in young people through engaging and youth-friendly methods," Steven Mbanza Setonde, the Founder and Managing Director of Kurama Generation revealed.

Recognizing the need for innovative approaches to engage and educate young individuals, Kurama Generation offers tailored programs and services to cater to the diverse needs of different age groups and demographics.

One of the organization&039;s key initiatives is the use of Kur Games, word-puzzle games printed on playing cards, which engage individuals interactively and enjoyably. Participants play these games to find words that deliver mental health messages when combined. At the end of each game, players have the opportunity to read and discuss mental health-related messages printed on answer cards, fostering open dialogue and learning.

Additionally, Kurama Generation has developed youth-friendly booklets known as K-Booklets. These booklets captivate young readers with engaging content, including mind-challenging pictures and relatable stories. Written by four young medical doctors and a pharmacist who understand the needs of young people, the K-Booklets provide valuable information and guidance on mental health in a format that resonates with the target audience.

Currently, Kurama Generation's efforts primarily focus on young people aged 13 to 21. Setonde explained, "The detrimental effects of poor mental health on young individuals necessitate our focus on this age group. However, we have plans to expand our work and reach individuals of different age ranges, ensuring that our services are accessible to all."

To raise awareness about mental health and combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues, Kurama Generation actively engages with schools and communities. Through the interactive nature of Kur Games and the informative content of K-Booklets, young people learn about mental health in a fun and accessible manner.

Kurama Generation has successfully collaborated with several secondary schools in Kigali, where students have gained valuable insights from participating in Kur Games and reading K-Booklets.

In terms of support and resources for individuals struggling with mental health challenges, Kurama Generation plays a crucial role. While their primary focus is on prevention, they have received numerous requests for assistance from young people. Setonde emphasized, "As a team comprising two young medical doctors and two senior medical students, we provide primary mental support as healthcare providers. We guide individuals to seek the appropriate help from psychologists, therapists, or relevant institutions."

Acknowledging the importance of inclusivity and accessibility, Kurama Generation is actively working on expanding their reach. While their main activities, Kur Games and K-Booklets, are currently available in English, they are developing plans to include individuals who understand only Kinyarwanda and those with reading disabilities, ensuring that their resources are inclusive and accessible to all.

One remarkable success story that showcases the positive impact of Kurama Generation's initiatives involves a student from a secondary school in Kigali.

After attending all the sessions conducted by Kurama Generation at his school, the student approached the organization seeking mental support. It was revealed that his parents were going through marital problems, which had a profound impact on his social life and academic performance. The school leaders recognized his struggles and recommended that Kurama Generation assist him.

The dedicated team at Kurama Generation counseled the student, providing him with the necessary guidance and support. Recognizing the importance of a comprehensive approach to mental health, they also connected him with professionals who could further assist him in addressing his challenges.

As Setonde reflects on these success stories, he emphasizes the criticality of mental health in our lives. "Mental health is everything; our mind is our life. We must protect and cherish it at all costs," he asserts.

Kurama Generation strongly believes that mental health plays a pivotal role in overall well-being and that a healthy mind knows no limits in what can be achieved.
