APR FC supporters are getting ready to paint Nyamirambo black and white as they anticipate nothing but to see their team celebrating the 2022/23 Primus National League title ahead of Sunday’s must-win clash with Gorilla FC at Kigali Pele Stadium.

Tied on 60 points with title rivals Kiyovu SC, the army side leads the race for the title by a superior goal difference of 10 goals at the top with one game remaining to play on Sunday.

Sunday’s crunch tie with Gorilla will define who will lift the title but APR can get the job done and add the title to their trophy cabinet with a victory over Gorilla.

Jacques Munyaneza, who is known as Rujugiro, is one of APR’s famous supporters since he started supporting the club at a tender age.

There was a time that APR went dip in form and struggled to get results to the extent that some supporters gave up on the title.

However, Munyaneza always believed that his team would turn the results around and challenge for the title which he now has confidence in the team to claim it even if they may wait for the last game.

"It&039;s gratifying to note that I always believed in my team. Some have lost hope but for me, I know APR can do miracles. Gorilla can’t stand in our way as long as our players know it’s a title deciding game. We are a big team,” he said.

Gloria Murekatete alias Nyiragasazi, an avid football enthusiast who has been supporting APR for over two decades, told Weekend Sport that she expects nothing from Sunday’s final league game against Gorilla but a victory to lift the title for the fourth time in a row.

"This is our most important game in the league. A victory on Saturday means a lot to us, I believe that our players will fight, give their best to collect maximum points. So we have to put past challenges behind and focus on this match,” Murekatete said in an interview.

"Our players are in good shape and ready for the match against Gorilla and understand well the magnitude of the assignment and it will be a big history in our country to win the title for the fourth time in a row,” she added.

A must-win game

Numbers show that either APR, Kiyovu or Rayon stand a chance of lifting the title although the army side has a superior chance.

The trio’s final but decisive league games could produce major surprises that people are rarely expecting.

League leaders APR will have to make no mistake and beat Gorilla FC in their final league game if they are to be crowned league champions for the fourth time in a row, with their goal difference looking far from possible for Kiyovu to chase.

Napoleon Muvala, also an APR supporter, anticipates "a very good match to watch, but we want the three points, no draw.”

"I have been following my team from the very beginning of the season and when we dropped to third place I couldn’t believe we would bounce back until Kiyovu dropped points against Sunrise. Now the title is in our hands and all we have to do, as fans, is to support our team on Sunday and lift the title,” he added.

Ben Moussa’s side may be leading the final sprint to the title, but they are aware that their mission won’t be accomplished until the last minute, with nearest challengers SC Kiyovu and Rayon Sports waiting in the wings and take every opportunity in case, just in case, the military side slips against Gorilla, the same side that dented Rayon’s title hopes a fortnight ago.

That’s why a defeat or a draw would blow APR’s last-minute chance of clinching the title as long as Kiyovu or Rayon Sports win their fixtures against Rutsiro and Sunrise respectively.
