APR retains national volleyball championship title

APR volleyball club won the national volleyball championship title for a second year running. The champions won the title with 42 points followed by Lycée de Nyanza with 38 pts, NUR with 38pts, INATEK with 30pts, GSO Butare with 25pts, KVC with 20pts, Christ-Roi with 14pts, St. Joseph with 10 and KIE finished bottom of the log with 8pts.

APR volleyball club won the national volleyball championship title for a second year running.The champions won the title with 42 points followed by Lycée de Nyanza with 38 pts, NUR with 38pts, INATEK with 30pts, GSO Butare with 25pts, KVC with 20pts, Christ-Roi with 14pts, St. Joseph with 10 and KIE finished bottom of the log with 8pts.However, APR’s triumph was overshadowed by allegations of player transfer irregularities with the military side was accused of using four illegitimate players they acquired from the Kenyan league side KCB.Rwandan volleyball federation executive secretary Gertrude Kubwimana, in a telephone interview with Times Sport, admitted, "Yes, those allegations were there but when we investigated and found they were baseless.”"The (volleyball) federation looked deep into those claims but we found nothing, all those four APR’s players people were talking about were legitimate with with valid transfer certificates,” added Kubwimana.   Elsewhere in the women’s title race which climaxes today, APR lead the table with 23 points, followed closely by main rivals Rwanda Revenue Authority on 21pts, then Ruhango with 15pts, St. Alloys with 9pts, and St. Joseph with 8pts, while Lycée de Nyanza is last on 7 pts.  The prize awarding ceremony is scheduled for August 12 after the Carres d’as tournament which brings together the top four teams in the league table in both categories (men and women).
