AMAVUBI forward Meddie Kagere was yesterday scheduled to leave for South Africa to undergo professional trials with Premier soccer league Bidvest Wits Football Club.Kagere told Times Sport, "I am supposed to be heading to South Africa today (yesterday) to hold trials with Bidvest Wits FC,”"I will spend a month there and if all goes well, my time there will determine whether I am joining that club or not,”"If all doesn’t go well at Bidvest Wits FC, I will be holding trials with some other club that my manager is yet to confirm at the moment,” added the former Mukura and SC Kiyovu striker.By press time, Kagere was still waiting for his travel ticket to be processed by the South African club.Amavubi head coach Milutin Sredojovic Micho who is trying to turn around Rwanda’s football is the man behind the move.Micho, who has been in Europe since mid last month, is also reportedly scouting professional clubs that would recruit APR’s trio of Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, Jean Claude Iranzi and Olivier Karekezi.Kagere, who has been pivotal for Amavubi and Police, was expected to join a yet to be named Saudi Arabian club but the deal faltered due to administrative issues.The 26-year-old Amavubi international has spent two seasons at Police, scoring 28 goals in two Primus League seasons.He has since become a regular for Amavubi and a talisman for Police, spearheading their good run and often delivering.His goals were particularly instrumental in bringing Police within touching distance of their first league title this season as well as MTN Peace Cup.The former Atraco forward was previously linked with a lucrative move to Tanzania giants Yanga, Gor Mahia of Kenya, APR and St. George of Ethiopia.He came into the lime-light when he guided Rwanda to the finals of the Cecafa Challenge Cup and went on to finish as joint-top scorer (five goals) at the tournament.Wits University Football Club, known under their sponsored title as Bidvest Wits, plays in the Premier Soccer League. Bidvest Wits have confirmed the appointment of Antonio Lopez Habas as the new Head Coach of their team on a two-year contract. He will be assisted by Miguel Gonzalez Martinez.Kagere is expected to join fellow Ugandan-born defender Timothy Batabaire, who is an influential player at the club, which finished 12th in the Premier soccer league last season.
