Former national cricket team coach William Kamanyi has praised Andre Kayitera for his spectacular performance in Sunday’s Sulfo league tie between record holders Kigali Cricket Club (KCC) and Young Tigers.

Kayitera set a new national record after scoring 124 runs, beating the previous one of 102 runs which was held by ex-Right Guards player Edward Kataha.

Kamanyi, who is the country to conduct a level 2 coaching course, an administration course, work on the under 17s and the girls’ team yesterday said that Kayitera’s performance is a clear indicator of the success of the RCA development program as well as the general improvement of the sport in Rwanda.

"It’s a great achievement for him and for Rwandan cricket as a whole because it will have a positive effect on other youngsters," the Ugandan said.

Charles Haba, the RCA president also supplemented Kamanyi saying, "Kayitera’s century is just a point to prove the importance and success of RCA’s schools development program".

"Eric Dusabemungu was also outstanding because he picked seven wickets," Haba continued.

During his stay in Rwanda, Kamanyi will visit a couple of schools and further start up mini cricket at La Colombiere and Green hills.
