It is the best possible start we could have wished for and we do not want to repeat the same mistakes of last year. "We played very well and though we missed plenty of chances to win by a bigger score, we managed to put on a good show that puts us in a very good position for the rest of the campaign,” Karekezi told Times Sport by phone.The Amavubi Stars captain noted that after their emphatic win against the tournament debutants from South Sudan, APR will be targeting nothing but a win in the second match on Tuesday so as to guarantee their place in the quarterfinals.APR smashed Wau Salaam of South Sudan 7-0 thrashing in Group C’s opening match. Leonel St. Preus broke the deadlock with a fine penalty in the 20th minute. Selemani Ndikumana added the second five minutes later with yet another fine drive past keeper Jarues Abdalla.APR continued exerting pressure on the debutants with Karekezi getting his name in the score sheet in the 28th minute with an easy tap in. Midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza grabbed the fourth goal three minutes after recess. St. Preux added his second and APR’s fifth on the 50th minute and Ndikumana made it six five minutes later as the army side ran rampant. Second half substitute Barnabe Mubumbyi, who came in for Karekezi, sealed the emphatic win with his maiden goal for Ernest Brandt’s team.Ernest Brandt’s team tops Group C with three points, level with their next opponents Atletico but with a superior goal difference of 7.
