The rugby fraternity led by Alexis Kamanzi, the president of the local rugby federation has lauded all those sponsors who supported the Silverbacks ahead of last week’s CAR Super 16 tournament.

Silverbacks, the men’s national rugby team won the tournament after beating the hosts, Burundi 7-5 last weekend.

Upon the team’s return on Sunday, Kamanzi who also happens to be one of the founding members of the sport in Rwanda extended his gratitude to the sponsors among them was the ministry of Sports and Culture, Cercle Sportif, BUFMAR and Belvedere, a local transport company.

"Without their support, the team wouldn’t have travelled to Burundi in the first place. So, the federation and the entire rugby fraternity are very grateful for all the assistance and support that was rendered to the national team" Kamanzi told Times Sport.

On their way to the final, the Silverbacks ejected KIBUBU, a Belgian-based club 65-29. Vincent Kamali who scooped the top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolades at the end of the tournament was the day’s heroes after scoring five tries.

He finished the tournament with six tries and after scoring Silverbacks’ all important try against Burundi in the final.
