POLICE’s out of contract striker, Meddy Kagere confirmed he held talks with Tanzanian big spenders Yanga recently in a view of moving to the club. The former Atraco and Mukura player has also not ruled out extending his stay at Police. Kagere was at the centre of a transfer battle amongst regional club giants in the February transfer window. Yanga, Gor Mahia of Kenya and Saint George of Ethiopia all expressed their desire to sign last year’s Tusker CECAFA Cup joint top scorer, with talks between Police FC and Saint George falling through at the last minute. Police FC have stressed their determination to keep their skipper, and now the player seems not to be in rush to sign for either side following Yanga’s approach."I talked to Yanga FC officials, they were in the country (Rwanda) on Wednesday. But nothing has been decided yet,” Kagere said on Wednesday."Police FC say they want me. We will sit and discuss. It is not possible that I will play for Yanga in the Kagame CECAFA Cup [as reported]” added Kagere who has been instrumental in Police’s recent surge. Kagere’s statement will be a major boost for Police president Alphonse Katarebe who believes that the club will be more than capable to hold on to their star players.Meanwhile, Police FC is battling to keep another free agent, Laudit Mavugo as the club prepares their assault for continental glory after finishing second in the Primus National League. There are reports in Tanzanian press that Kagere’s deal was sealed and that he will feature in  Kagame CECAFA Cup title defence which starts on Saturday when Yanga FC take on Atletico of  Burundi. If Yanga and Kagere reach an agreement, the Uganda-born star will be the second Rwandan to play for the club after Niyonzima Haruna.
