THE draws for this year’s Kagame Club Cup championship will be held this coming Friday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has confirmed.Musonye told Times Sport yesterday on phone from Nairobi, Kenya that he is still waiting confirmation from Sudan’s El Merriekh ahead of the draws."All clubs have already confirmed their participation for the tournament except Sudan’s El Merriekh whom we are still waiting to confirm."If El Merriekh don’t confirm their participation, we will replace them with a foreign club,” added Musonye. In El Merriekh’s absence, organisers may choose from DRC’s Vita Club, South Africa’s trio of Bloemfontein Celtics, Platinum FC and Silver Stars FC and Zimbabwe’s Dynamos, all of whom have shown interest in participating as guest teams. The official also confirmed that all the tournament matches will be staged at the 60,000 seat National Stadium and the 7,000 capacity Azam Stadium. The teams that have already confirmed include, Young Africans, Simba, Azam (Tanzania), Tusker (Kenya), Wau Salam (South Sudan), Atletico (Burundi), Mafunzo (Zanzibar), URA (Uganda), APR (Rwanda), Elman (Somalia), Ports (Djibouti), Red Sea (Eritrea) and Coffee (Ethiopia).Rwanda’s APR will be hoping for a fair draw that would help them stage a successful campaign this year following a disastrous campaign last year when they failed to make it past the group stage. They finished third in Group C with four points.Last year, Yanga FC beat their arch-rivals Simba SC 1-0 to lift the Cup.
