Accountants and auditors have called on the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) to facilitate them to upgrade their skills in order to comply with the International Standards on Auditing (ISA). They made the plea during a one-day training workshop organised by ICPAR that attracted auditors and accountants drawn from various firms. Speaking to The New Times, Leger Iradutiza, an auditor with GPO Partners Rwanda Ltd, pointed out that the accounting profession had registered incredible technological advances leaving many out of touch. "All professionals must upgrade their skills to be up to date with current standards. This will enable professionals to have a systematic approach in their day-to-day activities.” Iradutiza pointed out that in most cases; problems arise as a result of failure from auditors and accountants to capture the latest software. Diana Dukuzeyezu, an auditor with RUMA CPA Ltd, highlighted the sour working relations between internal auditors with external ones, citing this as a challenge that needs to be addressed. "When there is no proper coordination amongst both internal and external auditors, there is most likely to be a problem of inadequate data for us to effectively perform our duties,” Dukuzeyezu said.     She called on ICPAR to devise means of reconciling professionals in the industry under one umbrella, saying this would enable them to overcome the said challenges. The president of ICPAR, Peter Ruteremara, promised that the institute would do all within its means to advance the accountancy profession. During the workshop, participants were trained on practical approaches in audit planning, financial statements, audit of statement of comprehensive income and audit completion, among others.
