Rwanda Energy Group gets interim CEO

Rwandan electro-mechanics engineer Felix Gakuba has been named the Acting CEO of public electricity utility company, Rwanda Energy Group (REG), replacing Ron Weiss who has been at the institution’s helm since 2017.

Prior to his new appointment, Gakuba was serving as the Managing Director of the Energy Development Corporation Limited (EDCL), a public entity mandated to increase investment in the development of new energy generation projects, putting in place appropriate transmission infrastructure to improve energy distribution, as well as planning and executing energy access projects to meet the national access targets.

He boasts over 18 years of experience in the energy sector in the great lakes region, with his work experience ranging from electrification programs, generation and transmission planning, and project management.

Prior to joining EDCL, he coordinated multi-funded regional and transnational infrastructure programs at the Economic Community Great Lakes Region, in addition to working for ELECTROGAZ, a former Energy and Water utility, on various line rehabilitation and construction projects.

His predecessor at REG Ron Weiss, an Israeli national, had served in the CEO post since May 2017. Before joining REG, Weiss had served as the Senior Vice President, Engineering Projects and Business Development Group for the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC).
