When she holds the mantle to propose

WILL you marry me? Those are four magical words that anyone in a serious relationship will hope to hear. Those words have created big battles as evidenced in “Troy” when Prince Paris took off with Queen Helen of Sparta or build great empires like in the case of Loiuse XVI and Marie Antoinette.

WILL you marry me? Those are four magical words that anyone in a serious relationship will hope to hear. Those words have created big battles as evidenced in "Troy” when Prince Paris took off with Queen Helen of Sparta or build great empires like in the case of Loiuse XVI and Marie Antoinette. It has been known through tradition that it’s a man’s sole job to drop the question and girls have decided to relax and wait for a man to gather all the courage, look at the sweaty forehead as they pop the question. But if a man is not popping the question, how long will the girls wait? Fact or fiction, I don’t know but some people believe that women are allowed to propose on odd occasions like a leap year. But this lady didn’t wait for four years to propose. She took her chance boldly, stepped out of her shell and proposed to her man In Africa, let alone Uganda it is considered an abomination when a lady proposes to dude. Actually, it’s unheard of, but then no pain, no gain. Not that proposals are painful but if a dude is taking his time why not take the mantle and ask him.   This girl just told the dude, ‘Marry me!’ and the dude agreed. It is as simple as that. A person ought to gather their guts to be able to conquer their fears. Imagine the ecstasy you would feel once your proposal is approved.  But then what happens when your proposal is trashed? What’s the worst that could happen? Feel used and sulk up with rejection? So what! Would you have been different anyway? I still believe that a bride should wear a snow-white gown complete with a tiara, walked down the aisle by her Father, and given away by the brother. Basically, I believe in the traditional sense of marriage. I have proposed to one lady and that’s the one am marrying. However when this girl was telling how he proposed to the guy, it was both shocking but again a new revelation. "I called my boyfriend to my house for dinner, which he agreed too,”  she said. "I had prepared well, the meal was delicious and I had bought a bottle of wine”. So, we asked her if the boyfriend didn’t smell a rat. "No, he’s used to coming for dinners at my place. So, after dinner we sat on the couch and started talking and after like an hour I asked him, Honey, please marry me?” As we sat on the table, we all couldn’t wait for the girl to tell us what the response was. She continued, "My boyfriend looked at me and after 10 seconds, he said…..I’d love to marry you. You are adorable and wonderful. So let’s make marriage arrangements quick.”  And the proposal was done. Not really the romantic type that most people dream about nor the worst but it served its purpose. Precise, accurate and straight to the point. Perfect for a man. Incredibly, girls still wait on for the three-ring circus (modern engagement style, official ‘gusaba’ ring and marriage ring). When it comes to marriage and I am no different since my fiancée has a ring (modern engagement style) and there are two (Traditional and marriage rings) more to come. Ladies still day-dream about fireworks and eight layered chocolate cakes since they still believe that Cinderella was real! On the contrary, men just want everything to be simple and down to earth. Well, for all the girls out there who didn’t stand up to their boyfriends, proposals can happen any time of the year. Therefore, all you girls who didn’t propose due to fear, you don’t need to wait till there’s a special occasion, you have until the next weekend to pop the question and enjoy the ride to destination: Marriage.
