Lately, a series of showbiz news have been attracting people’s attention both on social media and in the media. The New Times looks at the showbiz stories that made headlines during the past week.

Tom Close is back

Rwandan star Tom Close is back in the game after spending two years without releasing music.

The ‘Si Beza’ hit maker bounced back in the game with a 13-track album dubbed ‘Essence’ that features big names such as Wezi from Zambia, Apass from Uganda, Sat-B from Burundi, Riderman, Nel Ngabo, Bull Dog, and B-Trey among others.

Tom Close rose to stardom in 2008 after dropping his maiden album ‘Kuki’, and later became a big star in Rwanda’s music industry after winning the first edition of Primus Guma Guma Superstar competition, which landed him a deal to record a song with Jamaica’s Sean Kingston.

His comeback has left many Rwandan music lovers talking on social media.

Bruce Melodie react to Burundi’s decision to ban Rwandan songs

Rwandan star Bruce Melodie did not take well with the banning of his songs in Burundi as he recently revealed in a YouTube interview. His songs, Akinyuma and Ikinyafu, were among the seven Rwandan songs banned in Burundi by the National Communication Council of Burundi.

During the YouTube interview, Bruce Melodie noted that his songs, which many say encourage the youth to engage in immoral behavior, don’t even contain dirty content.

He also said that Burundians had been practicing immoral behaviors even before he started producing music, indicating that the accusations lacked facts. "There are a lot of things that kill people other than our songs. How do you ban my songs before banning cigarettes?” Bruce Melodie said.
