MADRID - Spanish club Racing Santander are pleased to have signed DR Congo striker Mohamed Tchite from Belgian club Anderlecht.

Tchite joined Santander on Friday, just before the close of the transfer window, and signed a five-year contract.

A transfer fee of US$10m was agreed on and many hope that his presence will make a big difference in the club.

"Tchite is a hugely talented [player] and we are confident he can be one of the top scorers in La Liga this season,” Alberto Aparicio Barba said.

"We are pleased to have him here and we know he will make a huge impact in this highly competitive league.”

The 23-year-old played an instrumental role in Anderlecht’s 29th title success last season. He scored 20 goals in 30 appearances and was also named Belgium’s Player of the Year by his fellow professionals.

Racing Santander clinched the new signing shortly before the transfer window closed as Mohamed Tchite came from Anderlecht.

The Cantabrian club splashed the cash to secure Tchite as they met the Belgian club’s asking price of €7.5m for the central African born.

Anderlecht held out for the full fee as they faced losing revenue after being eliminated from the Champions League in midweek following defeat against Fenerbahce.

Tchite joined the Brussels-based outfit last summer from rivals Standard Liege for just €1.5m and saw his reputation grow in an impressive campaign last time out.

The 23-year-old netted 20 goals in 30 appearances and that attracted interest from across Europe, with Racing eventually clinching a deal to find the striker they wanted to replace Nikola Zigic.Ends
