NYAGATARE — Nyagatare district Mayor, Robert Kashemeza has called on sector leaders to identify priority areas that need immediate attention.

He was on Monday presiding over a ceremony to present the first phase of 2008 performance contracts [Imihigo] for Sectors and other district leaders at Sky Hotel in Nyagatare town.

Kashemeza urged the Civil Records and Population Requests staff (tasivil) who represented the sector executive secretaries at the function to have a team spirit in order to fulfill their goals.

The sector executive secretaries countrywide are currently undergoing solidarity training at the Peace and Leadership Institute at Nkumba in Burera district, Northern Province. District directors of various departments were among those who presented their set targets.

"Performance contracts shall enable all local leaders and district staff to identify urgent projects. Time management is vital to accomplish various tasks,” Kashemeza said. He observed that performance contracts are important in determining the leaders’ annual service delivery.

Poverty eradication, good governance, social justice, and improving education, underlined the contracts presented by sector officials.

Other highlights included economic development, war against HIV/Aids, resettling residents in community settlements [imidugudu], family planning campaigns among other things.

Commenting on the contracts, the Mayor urged leaders to consider increasing the percentage of people with health insurance [Mituel de sante] and increasing maize stocks as key areas.

The Mayor also urged leaders to look out for foreigners who acquire Rwandan nationality without passing through the right procedure.
