Famed Ugandan karate instructor, James Opiyo, arrived in Rwanda on Friday, April 28, to conduct a two-day training session in Kigali. His seminar was launched on Friday at Kigali Elite Sports Academy (KESA) in Kigali.

On Saturday, Opiyo and his trainees joined residents of Niboyi Sector, in the monthly community work (Umuganda) exercise where they braved the morning rain to clear bushes in the Niboyi neighbourhood. In the afternoon he conducted his last training session at KESA, on Saturday.

Among other karatekas, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Jean-Chrysostome Ngabitsinze, an associate professor of agricultural economics who especially practices Opiyo&039;s style of karate, Shotokan, could not afford to miss the last class.

Shotokan, perhaps the most widely known style of karate, was developed from various martial arts by its founder, Gichin Funakoshi, and his son Gigo Funakoshi.

Here, below, is how Opiyo's last session went; in pictures.
