The Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), last week, handed over 63 new housing units to disabled ex-combatants in Bugesera District. While presiding over the ceremony, Jean Sayinzoga, the Chairman of RDRC, urged the ex-combatants to carefully look after the new shelter so that their homes may last longer. "You should take care of these houses. This will automatically enable you to lead a decent life in your homes,” Sayinzoga said, adding that the Commission will continue to assist them where necessary.Apart from constructing houses for them, the RDRC carries out social-economic reintegration of ex-combatants countrywide. Significantly, the RDRC’s core job is to ensure peace and stability in the region; this has been achieved through repatriating and demobilising tens of thousands of ex-combatants, thus placing Rwanda on the forefront in peace building and conflict transformation on the continent.
