The association of students of the Independent University of Kigali ULK) has vowed to fight the Genocide ideology both within and outside the campus.

This was revealed by the university’s new guild president, Emmanuel Karemera, during a swearing-in ceremony that was held at the university conference hall.

"We are going to fight the genocide ideology and any kind of divisionism within and outside as the elite group.”

Karemera said briefly after taking oath, vowing to strive for the lifting of institution academic standards of the institution. The new guild president is the former Mayor of Gashonga district (now Rusizi) in the Western Province. He replaces Jean Claude Rukemampunzi.

"I was the minister in charge of academics in the out-going body, so I know where to start,” he said, adding that his administration will help the institution to implement government initiatives like the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategies (EDPRS) and other development priorities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Rector Dr. Alphonse Ngagi Munyamfura, urged the new office bearers to be at the forefront in the implementation of the institution’s policy of providing better quality of studies. Seven new commissioners were also sworn in.
