Shitto Cedro, upcoming gospel singer

At a place of continuous temptation, sinning, repenting, and again drawing back to sin, 21-year-old upcoming gospel artiste Cedric Ngamije, musically known as, Shitto Cedro says he fell short of God’s glory that he yearned to connect with Him afresh, thus writing a prayer that he turned into a song.

At a period of judging himself, and feeling ashamed of opening out to his friends about what he was encountering, he decided to sing a song, hoping that whoever finds themselves in a similar situation, never ceases to pray.

He jotted down the lyrics of the song titled, ‘Dayimoni Sinzira’, referring to the devil to sleep, and requesting angels in him to arise and fight for him.

The singer believes that people have the ability to avert the devil from tempting them, though sometimes allow him to use them to sin, either willingly or unwillingly. He hopes that his song could empower someone struggling with any addictions to quit, seek God’s guidance and repent.

"I remember getting a pen, and paper and writing down my feelings, it was quite emotional because I felt like I was having a conversation with God. It took me about four hours to complete writing the whole song. By then, since I had no money, I didn’t think I would record it,” he says.

He recalls last year singing the song to his friends while in high school at Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare who were impressed by his talent and advised him to record the song, and perhaps shoot a video for it, as that way, it would reach a bigger audience.

After completing high school in 2022, Shitto Cedro’s group of friends collected money to support him, and got him a producer, known as Genius, who worked on both the audio and video for Rwf 250,000. The song was released this week.

The youngster is optimistic that he will release at least a song every two months and has even started saving from his part-time gigs, as a waiter, and transport card seller. He has also started cutting down on expenses.

The singer enjoys writing songs about situations he passes through, as that way, he gives them his best flow, and energy, as they come from within.

Since childhood, Ngamije loved to sing, as he grew up singing in a choir, at a certain point, became a song leader at ADEPR Gashora, in Bugesera District.

Ngamije has competed in some competitions and won certificates, for instance, Youth in Holidays Challenge which was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Culture, and One Nyota music competitions.

Ngamije has written about 14 songs, which include; Udiharake, Pastor, and Ushimwe Mwami. He sings soprano, tenor, and alto.
