APR win Hoops Playoffs

APR yesterday showed that they are still the team to beat in basketball after defeating KBC 110-63 to win this year’s playoffs tournament.

YesterdayAPR 110 - 63 KBCAPR yesterday showed that they are still the team to beat in basketball after defeating KBC 110-63 to win this year’s playoffs tournament.The military side dominated in all quarters (27-12, 32-21, 21-15, 30-15) in a thrilling match that was watched by a big crowd.APR duo of Mike Buzangu and Kami Kabange scored 32 and 20 points respectively to give the club their first trophy of the season.Though he paid tribute to his team for producing a magnificent performance, APR coach Cliff Owuor said his team needs to reinforce as they gear up for the league."I cannot thank my players enough for such a good display. But we need to bring in two players to insure against injuries and fatigue.” Owuor said yesterday.APR were given Rwf 0.3m for winning the tourney, while KBC and UNR pocketed Rwf 0.2m and Rwf 150.000 respectively courtesy of tournament sponsors Imbuto Foundation who pumped in Rwf 16m in the tourney as a means of using sports to raise awareness about Malaria in the country.Meanwhile a new basketball tournament known as 3 on 3 will be officially inaugurated in Nyagatare next weekend according to Innocent Karuhije, the technical director in the Basketball Federation."Everyone is free to take part in this tournament and the winners will get cash prizes.” Karuhije said.
