Editor,Early this month, the Executive Director of the Higher EducationCouncil, Prof. Geoffrey Rugege, called on Rwandan students to enroll in recognised institutions.Rugege was responding to a list of Uganda’s recognised higher institutions of learning published in The New Times, February, 13.It’s important that a list of public, private universities and tertiary colleges accredited be made known to students. Some education investors tend to enroll students before they are fully accredited. Then students pay tuition yet they cannot be awarded degrees. I think what our Higher Education Council need to do is to publish the list of accredited institutions of higher learning. Students should be in position to know which universities posses provisional licenses and which ones are fully accredited. For instance, former students at Kigali Lay Adventist University (UNILAK) spent nine years before they could graduate. The school had not been granted accreditation for failure to meet minimum of standards.Lillian MutambaStudent, Nyagatare
