Hosta Evangelical Centre, Nyamirambo, yesterday, held a breast cancer awareness campaign which attracted over 80 people.Pastor Ezekiel Motsoeneng, said breast cancer is something not often spoken about yet it’s a threat to many women’s health therefore compelling the church to hold an awareness campaign. The Pastor called upon believers to always be knowledgeable about the things outside church as well, such as their health."Even the Bible – in the book of Hosea – states that people perish because of lack of knowledge. Christians shouldn’t be ignorant about their health and other issues. They shouldn’t undermine doctors or only wait for God to heal them without seeking medical attention,” Motsoeneng said.He urged women to always check their breasts for early detection in order to fight the epidemic. Motsoeneng added that the church is mostly known for holding conferences that only feed the soul, adding that it should also cater for physical needs and empowering people with knowledge.Doctor Jean Dieudonne Gatsinga, stated that among the various cancers, breast cancer was the highest killer of women worldwide.Through a Power Point presentation, he taught the women how to self-examine the breasts checking for cancer signs and advised them to go for regular check-ups."Women should go for breast examination by a professional at least once every year and also examine themselves every month. Women should also eat the right foods and avoid obesity because it would increase the chances of suffering from breast cancer,” Gatsinga said.He urged women to eat lots of fruits and vegetables while avoiding too much use of contraceptives. The doctor noted that women who don’t like breast feeding and who give birth at a late stage also increase chances of getting breast cancer.
