Rwanda women’s national cricket team takes on hosts Uganda in the opening match of the Victoria Series Championship scheduled Tuesday, April 18, at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala.

The team, led by head coach Leonard Nhamburo, traveled to Kampala on Sunday a few days after taking part in the NCF Invitational Cricket tournament held in Lagos, Nigeria.

Host Nigeria beat Nhamburo’s women in the final to clinch the title.

Skipper Diane Marie Bimenyimana and her teammates now shift focus on the Victoria Series Championship as they look poised to bounce back with a triumph in Kampala.

"We want to play good cricket in this series. We had a lot of preparatory games before coming here, we saw where we were not doing well and worked hard in those areas," Bimenyimana told Pulse Sports Uganda.

The pair face off at 1.50pm, Kigali time.

Rwanda will next face Kenya, UAE and Tanzania in subsequent games.

This is going to be Rwanda's first appearance in the competition though they remain one of the firm favorites to lift the trophy due to their pedigree in cricket on the African continent.

Rwanda has a number of players who helped the country reach the Supersix of the maiden edition of the U19 female cricket World Cup in South Africa in January 2023.
